So What is Peer Education Anyway?

Peer Educators are teens from surrounding high schools and the University who provide accurate information and education on sexual health, responsibility, and communication, to help youth make good decisions and life choices. Peer Educators also offer direct, informed adolescent perspectives on issues such as:
•Personal goals and values
•Relationships
•Decision making
•Communication
•Unintended pregnancy and birth control methods including abstinence
•HIV/AIDS
•Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI)
•Overall teen health, both physical and emotional (including drug and alcohol use and body image).

The mission of a Peer Educator is to help friends, classmates, and other peers select and maintain a pattern of healthy choices. They are availabe for classroom teaching and to answer questions on an informal basis from peers. Confidentiality is always honored.
If you are interested in becoming a peer educator, please call 587-0681. Peer educators meet and train on a weekly basis. It's a volunteer position.
